AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The California Science Center in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, is one of the city's standout attractions: a massive, free-admission science museum that pairs an authentic space shuttle legacy with living ocean ecosystems and hands-on sports science—all open daily without a ticket reservation for its core galleries.↗↗
Right now the Center is in a moment of major transition. Space Shuttle Endeavour—fresh from 25 missions and 122 million miles in space—is being prepared for its grand reveal in the brand-new Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, opening November 13, 2026. Until then, visitors can still explore the Kelp Forest, Ecosystems gallery, the wildly popular GAME ON! sports exhibit, and an IMAX theater, with rotating special exhibitions like Mummies of the World adding ticketed highlights.↗↗↗
Space Shuttle Endeavour & the New Air and Space Center
For millions of visitors, the California Science Center has been synonymous with Endeavour—the last orbiter built for NASA's Space Transportation System, which flew 25 missions between 1992 and 2011, carried 173 astronauts, and logged 299 days in orbit over 122 million miles. Endeavour deployed and serviced the Hubble Space Telescope, delivered the first U.S. component of the International Space Station, and transported the robotic arm Canadarm2 into orbit.
