AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Lower Dniester National Nature Park protects one of southeastern Europe's most important freshwater wetland systems, where the Dniester River spreads into a vast delta of reedbeds, oxbow lakes, floodplain forests, and wet meadows before reaching the Black Sea. Established in 2008 and covering 213 square kilometers in Odesa Oblast, this park is a birdwatcher's paradise with over 250 species recorded and up to 14,000 birds congregating on the estuary during migration periods.↗↗↗
The park encompasses two Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance and supports remarkable biodiversity — great white and Dalmatian pelicans nest here, European otters hunt the waterways, and catfish weighing up to 90 kg lurk in the depths. Whether you glide through reed-lined channels on a boat or walk among ancient willows on the floodplain levees, the Dniester Delta rewards patient, quiet observers with unforgettable wildlife encounters.↗↗↗
