AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Baraj manzarası—literally 'the dam view'—is a roadside scenic overlook on the heights above Güneybahşiş, a small hillside village in Anamur, on Mersin's Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey. Marked simply as a viewpoint (seyir noktası), its appeal is the broad, elevated prospect it opens over the Alaköprü Dam and its deep-blue reservoir, tucked among the forested foothills of the Taurus Mountains where they fall toward the sea.↗↗↗
It is a quiet, local draw rather than a developed attraction: a handful of reviews rate it a perfect five for the sweeping water-and-mountain panorama, and a small gallery of visitor photos confirms the wide, unobstructed framing that makes the spot worth the detour. Most people come to look, photograph the valley, and watch the light change over the reservoir and surrounding ridges.↗
What you see from the heights
From the overlook the eye drops into the Alaköprü Baraj Gölü, the reservoir that fills the valley of the Anamur (Dragon) Creek below the village. The water sits in a green amphitheatre of low Taurus slopes, the dam wall and a ribbon of road giving the scene a sense of scale. On clear days the layered ridges run out toward the Mediterranean, so the view reads as a transition from mountains to coast—exactly the landscape that defines this corner of Anamur.
