AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Than Thip Waterfall is a gentle, family-friendly cascade in Prachantakham district, Prachin Buri province — roughly a two-hour drive from Bangkok. Water tumbles about five metres over a series of broad limestone shelves, creating a string of shallow pools that are perfect for wading, picnicking, and cooling off on a hot Thai day.↗
What sets Than Thip apart from other rural waterfalls in the region is its after-dark transformation: coloured lights illuminate the rocks and water each evening, turning the site into a romantic night-out destination for couples and families. It's also one of five waterfall stops the provincial tourism office has flagged for development along a dedicated "waterfall tourism route" in Prachantakham, an area known locally as having more waterfalls than any other district in Thailand.↗↗↗
The Falls and the Pools
Than Thip isn't a dramatic single-plunge waterfall. It's a series of broad, mostly flat limestone shelves where the stream spreads wide before narrowing into small drops between pools — the tallest fall measuring around five metres. In the rainy season, from June through November, the water runs strong and the whole cascade sparkles. In the dry months (roughly February to May), the flow thins considerably across the wider rock platforms, but the pools remain swimmable.
