AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Huai Chak Nok (also written Huai Sak Nok) is a freshwater reservoir of roughly 1,400 rai, fringed by shady trees and low green hills, set just a few kilometres inland from Na Jomtien and the bustle of Pattaya. Locals treat it as a backyard retreat: a place for an easy morning walk, an evening cycle, a picnic by the water, or a quiet sit to watch the sky open over the lake.↗↗↗
Its standout moment comes in the cool season, from November to February, when tens of thousands of migratory birds—waterfowl, swifts and egrets—gather on the open water and the banks, turning a calm reservoir into a lively wetland spectacle that draws birders and photographers.↗↗
A green pause south of Pattaya
For travellers who have had enough of traffic, bars and beach-road heat, Huai Chak Nok offers a different side of the Pattaya area—wide, flat water, open sky and a soft breeze off the surface. The reservoir is a working water body as well as a leisure spot, supplying the surrounding villages for dry-season farming and freshwater fishing, so the scene feels lived-in and local rather than staged for tourists. On weekdays it is quiet; early morning and late afternoon are when joggers, cyclists and anglers drift in along the shore.
