Himbeerfels
Himbeerfels is a striking pink sandstone rock formation rising from the forests near Dabo in France's Moselle department. Carved by nature from the Vosges' celebrated grès rose, this outcrop is the most majestic among a cluster of bizarre rock shapes along a beloved hiking circuit. At its summit—reached by a short staircase climb—visitors are rewarded with sweeping views over the undulating forest canopy of the northern Vosges. The German name itself sparks friendly local debate: does Himbeerfels mean "Raspberry Rock"—a nod to its rosy hue—or is it named after a hermit called Himbeer? Whatever its origin, the rock has become a signature stop on the Dabo hiking trails and a favourite for autumn photographers who come to capture mist curling between dark fir trees and orange-tinted beeches.
