Paul Skeffington Memorial Trail
The Paul Skeffington Memorial Trail is a 5-mile paved greenway threading through DeWitt, Iowa, linking residential neighborhoods to the 100-acre Westbrook Park and its woodlands along Silver Creek. Named for a beloved local businessman who passed away in 1988, the trail was funded over decades by proceeds from the annual Paul Skeffington Memorial Race — a community running event that drew hundreds each June for 38 years. The 10-foot-wide asphalt path crosses Silver Creek on a concrete pedestrian bridge and passes through mature timber, a butterfly garden, and open parkland. Outdoor workout stations in the southern section add a fitness dimension to a walk or ride. The trail is designed for all ages and abilities — walkers, runners, cyclists, and rollerbladers share the smooth surface, which is wheelchair accessible.
