五結防潮閘門
The Wujie Tide Gate (五結防潮閘門), also called the Cingshuei Sluice Gate (清水大閘門), stands where the Dongshan River empties toward the sea at the lowest point of its lower reaches, in Wujie Township, Yilan. Built to hold back seawater and tame flood surges, it has quietly become one of the county's most photogenic waterside spots — a long wall of painted sluice gates set against a broad, mirror-still basin of water that catches sunsets, moonlight and the open Pacific sky. What gives the place its character is the meeting of working engineering and easy seaside calm. Locals stroll and cycle here for the evening light, anglers cast nets from the banks, photographers return with film and digital alike, and the gate doubles as a filming location and a gateway to one of Taiwan's richest wetland-and-birding coastlines. It is free and open year-round, making it a relaxed, low-effort stop that pairs naturally with a Dongshan River afternoon.
