Cherryfield-Narraguagus Historical Society
Tucked along the Narraguagus River in the small Down East town of Cherryfield, the Cherryfield-Narraguagus Historical Society is a modest, locally loved museum built to rescue a town's memory before it slipped away. Founded in 1974 by J. Phillip Harriman and Margery Brown, the society gathered artifacts, photographs, and family histories donated by neighbors and has been the steward of Cherryfield's stories ever since. It is a place to wander through everyday relics and read the long arc of a river town—settlement, timber, blueberries, and the families who shaped it. The appeal here is intimacy rather than scale. With free admission and a friendly volunteer spirit, the society doubles as a genealogical research hub and a classroom for local schoolchildren, making it a quietly rewarding stop for history buffs, curious travelers, and anyone tracing roots in rural Maine.
