Château Sigognac
Château Sigognac is a working Médoc wine estate on the gravelly plain of Saint-Yzans-de-Médoc, a short drive north of Bordeaux where the vineyards lean toward the Gironde estuary. A centuries-old property listed among the Cru Bourgeois of the Médoc, it produces structured reds from a single, contiguous vineyard and opens its cellar door to visitors for tours and tastings throughout the week. What draws wine lovers here is the combination of history and honesty: an estate said to stand on the ruins of a Roman villa, now farmed with an organic conversion underway, and a range of cuvées—from the grand vin to an 80-year-vine prestige parcel—that show what the Médoc's clay-limestone soils can do in disciplined hands.
