Narigama Beach
Narigama Beach is the long, easygoing ribbon of golden sand that runs along Hikkaduwa's southern edge, just a few minutes' tuk-tuk or a twenty-minute stroll south of the busier town centre. Often called Sunbeach after one of its seafront hotels, it has become the place most international visitors actually settle: a relaxed shore where boho beach bars, palm-shaded curry houses, surf camps and boutique hotels spill straight onto the sand. What makes it special is the balance. The sand stretches for kilometres and feels noticeably calmer than central Hikkaduwa, with room to walk the shore at sunset, while the mellow sand-bottom breaks that roll onto the beach make it the south coast's favourite classroom for first-time surfers. Come in the dry season, when the sea turns clear and gentle, and Narigama offers one of Sri Lanka's most welcoming stretches of west-coast beach.
