Kaplıca
Kaplıca sits in the high plains of eastern Anatolia near the Kurdish-Turkish border, and its name is the Turkish word for 'thermal baths' — a fitting label for one of the region's most storied natural hot-spring clusters. The settlement marks the edge of the Diyadin Kaplıcaları, a chain of mineral springs that has drawn locals and visitors for generations to soak in sulphurous, mineral-rich water under a wide sky. What makes this remote corner of Ağrı province worth a detour is the raw, unpolished character of the springs themselves. The waters bubble up hot and heavily mineralised around the village of Davut, part of a loose family of sources — Davut, Yılanlı and Köprü — spread along the banks of the Murat River. For travellers on the long Erzurum-to-Iran road, it is an authentic, working spa landscape rather than a resort, where therapeutic bathing remains a living summer tradition.
