Teewah Beach

Teewah Beach is one of Queensland's great wild coastlines: a 40km ribbon of hard, white sand on the Cooloola coast inside Great Sandy National Park, framed by towering cliffs of multi-coloured sand and a wind-pruned fringe of she-oaks, banksias and pandanus palms. Reached only by high-clearance 4WD or trail bike, it sits on the famous Great Beach Drive between Noosa Heads and Rainbow Beach, about 155–240km north of Brisbane, and rewards the effort with solitude, surf, sunrises over the Pacific and the freedom of beach camping beneath the cliffs. This is not a tidy foreshore park with carparks and cafes—it is a remote, permit-controlled stretch of national park beach where the sand cliffs are the star and self-sufficiency is part of the deal. For travellers happy to plan for tides, carry their rubbish out and swap bitumen for sand, Teewah is one of the most atmospheric and rewarding day trips or overnight camps on the Sunshine Coast.
