Makedonsko Selo
On the wooded slopes of Mount Vodno, just outside Skopje, Makedonsko Selo (the Macedonian Village) is a hands-on ethnographic complex that rebuilds a traditional village as a place you can walk through, eat in and even sleep in. Set in Gorno Nerezi beside the famous Church of St. Panteleimon, it gathers sixteen heritage-style houses, cobblestone lanes and artisan workshops into one compact, atmospheric site that makes an easy introduction to Macedonian rural life. What sets it apart from a conventional museum is that the past here stays lively: you can watch silversmiths, potters and weavers at work, browse a free ethnographic museum, taste classics like tavče gravče at the on-site kitchens, and pair the visit with the Millennium Cross cable car or Matka Canyon, all within a 15–20 minute drive of the city centre.
