Monument of Bartosz Glowacki

Perched on a high stone pedestal in the upper reaches of Lychakivskyi Park, the Monument of Bartosz Głowacki commemorates a peasant hero of the 1794 Kościuszko Uprising who seized a Russian cannon at the Battle of Racławice by smothering its fuse with his cap. Erected in 1906 by Lviv's Polish craftsmen, it is one of the few pre-war Polish public monuments that still stands in its original location in the city. The sculpture depicts Głowacki standing triumphantly atop the barrel of a captured cannon, a scythe in his right hand and his left arm raised in a call to battle. The rough-hewn stone base makes the figure appear to grow organically from the hillside, merging with the park's pine-covered slopes above the Lychakivska Street ridge.
