Old Little Belt Bridge
The Old Little Belt Bridge (Den Gamle Lillebæltsbro) is a 1,178-metre steel through-truss bridge spanning the narrow Little Belt strait between Jutland and Funen. Opened on 14 May 1935 with a royal ceremony attended by 50,000 spectators, it was Denmark's first combined road-and-rail bridge and remains the only rail connection between the country's two main landmasses. Today the bridge doubles as one of Denmark's most distinctive tourist attractions. Since 2015, Bridgewalking has let visitors ascend to the very top of the steel structure — 60 metres above sea level — and walk its full length on guided tours, one of only a handful of such experiences in the world. The surrounding waters of the Little Belt are home to a resident population of harbour porpoises, and the beech forests of the Hindsgavl Peninsula frame one side of the strait.
