Doughmore beach
Doughmore Beach sweeps along the west Clare coast just outside the village of Doonbeg, a long, open strand of golden sand on the Wild Atlantic Way. Backed by a rolling system of sand dunes and the manicured fairways of the Trump International Golf Links / Doonbeg Golf Club, it is a beach built for walkers, surfers and wide-Atlantic views rather than a quick paddling splash. Fáilte Ireland lists it as a Discovery Point and a free, year-round coastal escape. Reach it from Doonbeg and you are rewarded with a sense of space that busier Clare beaches have lost: the sand runs for several kilometres, the surf is famously consistent, and because the approach takes you across the golf course it stays quiet even on fine days. This is raw, windswept Irish coastline at its most atmospheric.
