Autotanku pulka piemineklis
The Autotanku Pulka Monument stands on Pulka iela in Riga's Kurzeme district, a striking Art Deco sculpture of a stylized armored car charging uphill on a wedge-shaped pedestal. Unveiled in 1939 on the twentieth anniversary of Latvia's first armored military unit, it commemorates soldiers of the 1st Armoured Division (later the Auto Tank Regiment) who fell during the Latvian War of Independence. Designed by architect Verners Vitands and brought to life by master craftsman Rūdolfs Feldbergs, the concrete-and-granite monument is a rare example of Latvian Art Deco military sculpture — a dynamic, speed-evoking form hidden for decades behind Soviet military fences and only accessible again after Latvia restored independence.
