Wat Pa Kiri Wongkot
Wat Pa Kiri Wongkot is a quiet forest monastery in the Thammayut order, tucked into the rural landscape of Nong Waeng Tai subdistrict in Wanon Niwat District, Sakon Nakhon Province, northeastern Thailand. The name Kiri Wongkot evokes a dense mountain forest — a fitting image for the forest-monastery tradition this temple belongs to. Registered in February 2012, this is a relatively young temple that carries the character and discipline of the Thai Forest Tradition, which has deep roots across Isan. The Thammayut order, reformed in the nineteenth century and strong in forest monasteries, emphasizes strict Vinaya observance and meditation practice over ceremonial grandeur.
