AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Tucked into a shophouse lane in Kawasan 17, about a kilometre from the heart of Klang, Yun Dan Gong (云丹宫) is one of Selangor's most unexpectedly photogenic temples. Visitors come for a flash of Thai-style blue architecture that is hard to find anywhere else in Malaysia, for a Four-Faced Buddha shrine, and for the quiet, off-the-beaten-track charm of a working neighbourhood place of worship that stays open late into the evening.↗↗↗
More than a backdrop for photos, Yun Dan Gong is a living spiritual centre devoted to a master whose divination and blessing services have, by the temple's own account, drawn tens of thousands of devotees from across Malaysia and the wider region. It is a place where people come to pray for luck, to have a moment of stillness, and simply to admire a building that glows a deep, ornate blue.↗↗
A blue temple unlike any other in Malaysia
What stops visitors in their tracks is the colour. Yun Dan Gong is finished in an intense, intricately decorated blue that several reviewers compare to Thailand's famous 'blue temple,' and many say they had not seen anything like it elsewhere in Malaysia. The ornate façades and rich detail make the small temple feel like a slice of Thai devotional design set down in a quiet Klang back street, and it has become a favourite spot to browse, photograph and simply admire.
