AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Gaura Radha Krishna Gaudiya Matha is a serene temple on Atri Road in Khordha, Odisha, dedicated to the devotional tradition of Radha-Krishna worship inspired by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Visitors describe it as a peaceful spiritual sanctuary where the resonant sounds of kirtan — congregational chanting of the holy names — fill the air and create an atmosphere of calm and devotion. The temple's traditional architecture carries the aesthetic sensibility of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, and its community-oriented approach draws devotees from nearby villages and towns across the Khordha district.↗↗
A Living Gaudiya Vaishnava Tradition
The name itself reveals the temple's spiritual lineage. "Gaura" refers to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486–1534), the Bengali saint regarded as an incarnation of Krishna who ignited the bhakti movement that still pulses across eastern India. "Radha Krishna" names the divine couple at the heart of the tradition's worship. A "Gaudiya Matha" is a monastic-center rooted in the teachings systematized in the early twentieth century by Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, whose network of mathas spread the practice of kirtan and scriptural study across India.↗
