AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Sri Kanaka Durga Devi Temple is one of Hyderabad's most frequented Goddess temples, located right at the busy Ameerpet crossroads in the heart of the city. Consecrated in 1986 within the grounds of an older Pochamma Ammavari shrine, the temple has grown into a thriving spiritual complex drawing devotees from every corner of Hyderabad, especially during the spectacular Dasara Navaratri celebrations.↗↗
The temple's appeal lies in its powerful Shakti worship traditions, the variety of sub-shrines within one compact complex, and its unbeatable location just steps from Ameerpet Metro Station. Whether you come for the serene early-morning darshan, the thundering Chandi Homa on full-moon nights, or the festive palanquin processions, this is a living temple that pulses with the devotion of everyday Hyderabadis.↗↗
Origins and the Founder Family
The Sri Kanaka Durga temple was built at the request of local residents, with the support of prominent citizens of the Ameerpet area, within the premises of the already existing ancient Sri Pochamma Ammavari Temple. Construction began in 1984 through the personal efforts and funds of the Kemshetty Rajeshwarappa family, and the temple was formally consecrated on 31 March 1986 by Sri Sri Sri Vidyanrusimha Bharati, Pontiff of Pushpagiri Peetham.
