AT A GLANCE
Why go?
In the Bholav suburb of Bharuch, Gujarat, the Kusum Harnath Temple is a quiet house of worship devoted to Sri Sri Thakur Haranath and his consort Mata Kusumkumari Devi, together revered as "KusumHaranath." It belongs to a devotional tradition that began in Bengal and has spread to centres across India, and this Bharuch ashram-mandir is one of its western outposts.↗↗↗↗
Visitors describe it as a calm, holy place where the simple practice of chanting the Lord's name is said to settle the mind. Beyond worship, the temple is remembered for seva—helping the poor—through funds raised by the devotional family and community, and for doubling as a welcoming venue for family gatherings and ceremonies.↗↗
Who the temple honours
The temple is dedicated to Thakur Haranath (1865–1942), a saint born in Sonamukhi in the Bankura district of West Bengal whom his followers revere as an embodiment of Krishna and the promised successor of the 16th-century sage Gouranga. His spiritual companion and consort, Mata Kusumkumari Devi, is honoured alongside him, and their joined names give the tradition and this temple their title.
