AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Plakia Beach is a small, easygoing sandy cove on the south-east coast of Rhodes, a short hop from the low-key resort of Pefkos and only a few kilometres from Lindos. It is a compact stretch of fine golden sand washed by shallow, crystal-clear turquoise water, and that combination makes it one of the most rewarding swimming-and-snorkelling spots in this part of the island.↗↗↗
What travellers remember is the contrast with the bigger resort beaches nearby. Plakia is organised enough to be comfortable—sunbeds and umbrellas to rent, showers, changing rooms, an on-site cantina for snacks and a cold drink—yet it keeps a quiet, laid-back feel, with plenty of free beach space, no thumping music, and the gentle sound of the sea instead. It has built a strong reputation as the top thing to do in Pefkos.↗↗↗
Why Plakia is worth the trip
The setting is the draw. Soft, pale sand gives way to a seabed that shelves gently for the first stretch out from the shore, so the water stays shallow, calm and safe—ideal if you are travelling with children or simply want to wade out and float without beach shoes. At the edges the beach is fringed by low rock formations and stone reefs, and it is here that the snorkelling comes into its own: slip in with a mask and you can pick out small fish and marine life darting among the rocks, while the open sandy centre stays clear and turquoise.
