AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Hobbucks View Point sits atop one of the highest points in Nottinghamshire, offering sweeping panoramas across the Trent Valley and all the way to the city of Nottingham on clear days — up to twenty miles of open countryside, urban skyline and distant landmarks in every direction. It forms the crown of the Hobbucks Local Nature Reserve, a 14-hectare patchwork of wildflower meadows, veteran trees, scrubland and woodland just two miles from Arnold town centre.↗↗↗
What makes this place special is its story of community action: once an overgrown area of scrubland with fly-tipping problems, the Hobbucks was reclaimed by local volunteers in the early 2000s and formally recognised as a Local Nature Reserve in 2015. Today it rewards visitors with well-maintained paths, informative interpretation boards, and that unforgettable vantage point where the whole of the Nottingham basin unfolds below you.↗
The View
Standing at the Hobbucks View Point, you can look south across the entire Nottingham skyline — the high-rise flats of Hyson Green sit four miles away, and on really clear days the cooling towers of Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station are visible a full eighteen miles to the south. Looking in the other direction, you can see out towards East Midlands Airport through the Trent Valley. The view stretches in all directions across a landscape that shifts from urban housing to open farmland and wooded hillsides.
