AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Museu Comarcal de Cervera is not one museum but three woven together inside the historic town of Cervera, in the wheat country of La Segarra, Lleida. Housed largely in Casa Duran, a stately house on Carrer Major, it brings together the old Museu de Cervera, the ethnographic Museu del Blat i la Pagesia (Wheat and Farming Museum), and the Casa Museu Duran i Sanpere, the birthplace of the city's great historian Agustí Duran i Sanpere. Together they tell the story of a town that was home to Catalonia's only university in the 18th century—and, in its own way, of the whole comarca.↗↗
You come here for medieval altarpieces rescued from Cervera's churches, for the relics of that long-vanished university, for a perfectly preserved late-19th-century bourgeois home you can walk room by room, and—unexpectedly—for the trophies, leathers and racing bikes of MotoGP world champion Marc Márquez, a son of this very town. It is a compact, family-run county museum with a surprisingly wide range, and a warm 4.5 rating from visitors.↗↗
