AT A GLANCE
Why go?
At 955 metres, Silberberg is the beloved local mountain of Bodenmais in Germany's Bavarian Forest — a destination that packs a historic silver mine, an alpine cable car, a new all-weather coaster, and sweeping forest viewpoints into one compact, family-friendly peak.↗↗
Whether you arrive for a high-altitude walk among spruce and ancient mining scars, descend 600 metres into the Barbarastollen tunnel to hear miners' stories, or simply ride the chairlift up for a sunset drink at Herbert's Bar, Silberberg rewards every kind of visitor. In winter the mountain transforms into a compact ski area with dedicated children's runs and a toboggan slope.↗
From Silver Mine to Family Adventure Mountain
The name Silberberg literally translates to "Silver Mountain," and for centuries miners bored into its slopes extracting silver, lead, and zinc ore. Today the legacy lives on as one of the Bavarian Forest's most visited day-trip destinations: part active outdoor playground, part geological museum, and entirely rooted in the mining heritage of Bodenmais.↗
