The best time to visit Jodhpur is from November to February, when daytime highs are 23-30°C and nights are cool, making sightseeing comfortable. March to May is very hot, with April and May averaging 39-40°C, so avoid those months unless you handle heat well. June through September brings the monsoon, with July and August seeing 13-15 rain days and high humidity, though the city turns greener. October is a pleasant transition with warm days and little rain.

Stay in the old city near the clock tower and Mehrangarh Fort for the most atmospheric experience, close to sights like Ghanta Ghar and Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi. The area around Circuit House Road suits those wanting palace hotels like Umaid Bhawan Palace or The Ajit Bhawan. For a quieter, more modern base, the Residency Road area has options like Radisson Jodhpur and Taj Hari Mahal.

Start at Mehrangarh Fort, the city's towering landmark with sweeping views and rich history. Ghanta Ghar, the clock tower market, is great for a stroll and local life. Mandore Garden offers ancient cenotaphs and greenery. Umaid Bhawan Palace and its museum showcase royal architecture and artifacts. Jaswant Thada, a marble memorial, is serene and photogenic.

The only bookable full-day tour from Jodhpur is a city walk with a local guide, covering the main sights within the city itself. For a day trip beyond Jodhpur, well-known options include visiting the blue city of Jaisalmer for its desert fort and sand dunes, or the temple town of Ranakpur to see its famous marble Jain temples. Another common choice is the village of Osian, known for its ancient temples and desert landscape.

Three days is a good amount for Jodhpur. Spend two days exploring Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Ghanta Ghar, and the Umaid Bhawan Palace and Museum, plus the Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi stepwell. Add a third day for Mandore Garden and Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park. If you take a full-day tour, plan for an extra day.
