Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum
Founded in 1987 by the Tuskegee Airmen themselves, this museum at Coleman A. Young International Airport preserves the legacy of America's first African American military aviators while launching a new generation into the skies. Its collection spans thousands of artifacts, photographs, flight logs, and personal memorabilia donated directly by the airmen and their families. But this is no static shrine. Warbirds—including Stearman, T-6, and BT-13 trainers—sit on the grounds as living monuments, and the museum runs a Flight Academy where teenagers earn their private pilot licenses, free of charge. It's a place where history meets runway: honoring courage in World War II while clearing the path for the next generation of aviators.
