Ostrogozhskiy Istoriko-Khudozhestvennyy Muzey Im. I. N. Kramskogo
Known affectionately as the "Ostrogozhsk Hermitage," this museum on Kramskoy Boulevard is one of Russia's oldest provincial art galleries — founded in 1907 by public initiative to honor the memory of Ivan Kramskoy, the great portraitist and driving force behind the Wanderers movement, who was born in this small town on the Tikhaya Sosna River. Housed in the upper floor of a former 1880s firehouse — crowned by the painter's architect son — the museum blends a fine-art collection featuring Kramskoy, Repin, Aivazovsky, Kuindzhi, and Shishkin with a vivid local-history display that runs from Scythian gold to Cossack frontier life. After touring eleven exhibition halls, visitors can climb the surviving fire tower for a sweeping view of the town's 18th- and 19th-century skyline.
