House-museum of Nikolai Zhukovsky
The Zhukovsky Estate Museum in Orekhovo, Vladimir Oblast, preserves the birthplace and ancestral home of Nikolai Egorovich Zhukovsky (1847–1921), the scientist who founded modern aerodynamics and earned the title "father of Russian aviation." The wooden manor house, set amid a 12-hectare linden park with cascading ponds, is remarkably intact — a rare survivor among Russian noble estates. The museum's eleven exhibition halls recreate the Zhukovsky family's world across seven memorial rooms and four dedicated to the scientist's legacy, while a costumed theatrical tour — complete with bread-and-salt welcome, period piano music, and estate legends — brings the old noble household vividly to life.
