Ikeda Eco Museum
The Ikeda Eco Museum (officially the Ikeda City 3R Promotion Center) is a hands-on environmental center tucked into the ground floor of Ikeda's Central Public Hall, a short walk from the city's main station. Far from a glass-case museum, it is a working showcase for "3R"—reduce, reuse, recycle—where you can browse a well-stocked secondhand shop, learn how everyday waste is turned into new things, and catch an eco-craft workshop or a themed exhibition. What gives the place its charm is the sheer volume of ordinary objects passing through it: since 2009 the center has taken in more than 770,000 donated items of clothing, tableware and bags, cleaned them up and passed them on. For a visitor it is a free, offbeat stop—part thrift treasure hunt, part civic idea lab—that reveals how a small Japanese city runs sustainability at the neighborhood level.
