Peurunka

Lake Peurunka (Peurunkajärvi) is a quiet stretch of water in the heart of Finnish Lakeland, just outside Laukaa and about 25 kilometres from Jyväskylä, but it is the lively shore that draws visitors. The lake gives its name to Peurunka Spa & Resort, a family holiday hub that markets itself as Finland's most active spa, with pools, a 130-metre waterslide, more than ten saunas and rooms overlooking the water. In summer the lake itself becomes the main event with a floating water park, a beach and plenty of paddle-boarding. What makes a visit here more than just another Finnish lake is the mix of nature, history and easy activity. The 7,000-year-old Saraakallio rock paintings, the most extensive site of their kind in Fennoscandia, are right in Laukaa and have an experience centre at Peurunka; rapids, hills and several national parks sit within easy reach. Whether you come for a spa afternoon, a day of water play, or a longer stay in a lakeside cottage, Peurunka is a convenient base for exploring Central Finland.
