Vogelbeobachtungsturm Katinger Watt
Rising sixteen metres above the flat marshland of the Eider estuary, the Katinger Watt Birdwatching Tower offers an unmatched vantage point over one of Schleswig-Holstein's richest bird reserves. Built by the State of Schleswig-Holstein at the southern edge of the dyked former tidal flats, the tower lets observers scan the winding Katinger Priel creek, the shallow pools and grasslands below, and—looking west over the Eider Dam—all the way to the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea National Park. From the platform, visitors routinely count white-tailed eagles perched along the waterways, mixed flocks of brent and greylag geese, and legions of wading birds probing the mud and shallows. A rental telescope is mounted up top for those who forgot binoculars, making the tower accessible to any curious naturalist.
